In-Office and Take-Home Teeth Whitening
How long does teeth whitening last?
Teeth Whitening in San Diego No one’s teeth stay perfectly white forever. Over time, stains accumulate from coffee, wine, tea, soda, tobacco, and other products consumed every day by average Americans. Brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing, and routine dental cleanings can all mitigate teeth discoloration, but certain in-office teeth whitening procedures have been proven to provide dramatic results, reversing years of discoloration.
In-Office and Take-Home Teeth Whitening
Here at Mesa Family Dental, Dr. Davoudi offers two kinds of teeth whitening procedures, In-Office and Take-Home. These are both very effective teeth whitening techniques. The In-Office whitening takes between 120 minutes, and typically results in a 6-10 shade difference in the whiteness of your teeth. The In-Office whitening works by oxidizing a special gel applied to the enamel of your teeth. A lamp (not a laser) heats up the gel and breaks down hydrogen peroxide within it, releasing oxygen into the dentin of the teeth and bleaching the teeth of stains left behind by wine, coffee, tea, tobacco, soda, and colorful foods and beverages.
How long does teeth whitening last?
Results last between 2-3 years before a touch-up may be necessary. The Take-Home whitening works by placing a small amount of a whitening gel (stronger than any over-the-counter product) on the front surface of custom-made trays that fit securely over your teeth. You wear the trays for about two weeks. Depending on your situation, we may recommend that you wear the tray an hour a day or overnight.
While both procedures are extremely safe, we do not recommend them for women who are nursing or pregnant, or for children under the age of 16 – an advisory that applies across the board for all teeth whitening products. If you have any questions or concerns about either In-Office or Take-Home teeth whitening, please don’t hesitate to contact our office directly. We have a tremendous track record of success with our teeth whitening procedures, and we are happy to assuage any unnecessary anxiety that you may have about the process.
